The Latin-American Violin Academy (Academia Latinoamericana de Violín) was created in 1991 by José Antonio Abreu to consolidate and expand the teaching career of the eminent violinist and pedagogue José Francisco del Castillo in conservatories and universities of Venezuela for more than three decades.
Since its foundation, the Academy has developed a remarkable pedagogy throughout all Latin-America, promoting the excellence of violin playing through its alumni and creating numerous academic activities such as competitions, festivals, summer courses and master-classes in Caracas and the rest of Venezuela. The rigorous search for excellence in violin performance had gained the recognition and praise of numerous international guest artists such as Aaron Rosand, Albert Markov, Ilia Kaler, Yossi Zivoni, Roberto Valdéz, Thomas Moore, Ivry Gitlis and Francesco Manara, among many others.
The Latin-American Violin Academy continues to sustain a high academic level taught by its three teachers under the direction of Mto. Del Castillo. Sixty-five of the best Venezuelan violinists are currently being taught in its classrooms. During its seventeen years of operation, the Academy has taught a great number of professional violinists, many of whom are successful soloists, teachers and members of important orchestras in Venezuela and throughout the world.
