workshops and conferences provide additional information and training on specific curricular areas, especially in the areas oflanguage arts ,mathematics , andsocial science . Extensive work has also been done to align the curricular areas to state standards and to develop multiple assessments to guide instruction.Technology
All T.H.S. graduates must fulfill a one-year computer course requirement, which can be satisfied through a variety of courses depending on their four-year plan and career goals. All students have accounts on the school’s
network server . Each account represents a digital locker for students to store information and data necessary to complete assignments in all subject areas. The high school is participating in theSan Luis Obispo County Office of Education’sWeb Portal . This gateway provides standards-based digital resources to teachers and students throughout San Luis Obispo County at school and at home. Teachers and students have access to several innovative features, including Blackboard, an on-line learning tool that creates a virtual classroom. Teachers can post assignments, bulletins, and grades; organize lessons; archive resources and student work; e-mail students and parents; create homework chat rooms for students; and post website links for student research projects. The portal also includes United Streaming, a standards-aligned media library that can be used to deliver digital video to a student or teacher’s desktop computer.Templeton High School has 175 computer
workstation s located throughout the campus. In addition to the four computer labs, each classroom has at least one computer, and many classrooms have multiple computers or mini-labs. Each computer is connected to the district’sWide Area Network (WAN) as well as the Internet via a high-speed fiber-optic network. Through a collective project with the other school districts the county, they were able to use Digital California Project Funds to install a DS-3 circuit to access the Internet. Teachers use the WAN to share information with their colleagues and to provide students a central location to access their files. All attendance, business, grades, and student records are computerized. Administration and staff utilize electronic mail, time management, and classroom management software daily, and use the WAN to share data with the district office. Technical assistance is provided by the district’s Technology Center which is located on the high school campus. The Technology Center is staffed with a full-time Director of Technology, Network Technician, and Computer Technician. The Computer Technician teaches an ROP Computer Service and Repair course. Students in this class learn valuable job skills and provide additional technical support to the district. One staff member is certified as a Level III technology mentor by the San Luis Obispo County Office of Education, and assists staff in integrating technology into their curricula through formal and informal training sessions.References
