extrasolar planet located approximately 178light-year s away in theconstellation ofDorado , orbiting thestar HD 30177 . This is one of the most massive planets ever detected byradial velocity method . It is even more massive thanPi Mensae b , but not as massive asHD 114762 b andHD 136118 b . This planet by mass is classified as massivesuperjovian . In addition, the planet orbits far from the star, about 4 AU away, taking 2770 days (7.58 years) to orbit the star. Even if the massive planet is orbiting at 4 AU from the star, semi-amplitude is high, around 146.8±2.8 m/s. Since ifinclination is not known, this planet would likely be abrown dwarf instead.On June 13, 2002 this planet was discovered by Tinney, Butler, and Marcy "et al" using the
Doppler spectroscopy from theAnglo-Australian Telescope .See also
