Reg Vardy Band

Reg Vardy Band

The Reg Vardy Band is a brass band based in North East England.

Craghead Colliery Band

It was formed in 1910 as the Craghead Colliery Band for miners in Craghead, County Durham, a village between Consett and Chester-le-Street.

Ever Ready Band

The colliery closed in 1968. Colliery workers found work at the Ever Ready (now owned by Energizer Holdings) factory in Tanfield Lea. Thus in 1968, the band became sponsored by the company to become the Ever Ready Band. The factory closed in 1992, but the band retained the name of the company due to their reputation. They found a practice room in a Salvation Army hall in Stanley, two miles to the north-west of Craghead.

Reg Vardy Band

In March 2003, the band found a sponsor in the form of the Reg Vardy Group, a motor retailing group based in Sunderland. In January 2006, Reg Vardy were taken over by Pendragon PLC.
