David C. Kelly is an associate professor of mathematics at Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts. He directs the Hampshire College Summer Studies in Mathematics, and has been involved in the organization of "Yellow Pig's Day," an annual celebration of mathematics.[1] He is quite familiar with many of the interesting properties of the number 17.[1]
Kelly's father was involved in the military, and he spent much of his early life traveling around the world. He lived in Brazil from when he was eleven years old to thirteen, and grew fond of brazilian food
