- Rinay
Rinay is a malacological museum of natural history in
Baku (Azerbaijan ). Being also the first private museum in the country, it exhibits around 5,000 clam-shells related to 86 genera worldwide."Yol" magazine, N4 (8), 2007, pp. 40, 44] The museum also displays hundreds of fossil clam-shells. Some of them were obtained by interchange from theAustria n, Canadian,Argentine , Spanish, German, Ukrainian,Russia n, Turkish andIndonesia npaleontological university museums. Rinay is opened on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays between 10:00 and 14:00.The basis for the museum collection was laid down in early 1930s by
Sadykh Karayev , an Honored Engineer and Honored Inventor of the USSR. Karayev's clam-shells collection, preserved by his wife Prof. Jeyran Ibadova, was transferred from Rinay to theHistory Museum of Azerbaijan in June, 2007 and his son Tofik Karayev continued the business. T. Karayev used to work in the Geological Institute of theAcademy of Sciences of Azerbaijan SSR . He systematized the collection and conducted a taxonomic revision of modern molluscs. In 1989 the museum got an official status.Notes
