Balga ( _ru. замок Бальга; _pl. Bałga) was a medieval
castle of theTeutonic Knights . Its ruins are located near the village of Vesyoloye inBagrationovsky District ofKaliningrad Oblast ,Russia ; 30 km southwest ofKaliningrad .The oldest
Ordensburg constructed by the Teutonic Order in the region of the present-dayKaliningrad Oblast , Balga was built in 1239 to control naval traffic on theVistula Lagoon . With the assistance ofOtto I, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg , the crusaders defeated theOld Prussians along the coastline.
