Seven Chimneys

Seven Chimneys is a historic site in Washington Township, of Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. It is located on 25 Chimney Ridge Road. It is the town's most celebrated Historical heritage. The township's oldest house, it was built by Nicholas Zabriske in 1750 [ [http://www.bergencountyhistory.org/pdfs/MarkerBooklet100707.pdf MarkerBooklet.indd ] ] . Left and Right Wings were added after 1770 and the second story frame was raised above the original native sandstone [ [http://www.bergencountyhistory.org/pdfs/MarkerBooklet100707.pdf MarkerBooklet.indd ] ] . The house was also apart of the Underground Railroad, which helped escaping slaves before the Civil War [ [http://www.bergencountyhistory.org/pdfs/MarkerBooklet100707.pdf MarkerBooklet.indd ] ] . Local Legend also states that George Washington stayed at Seven Chimneys for a short period of time in his years before Politics.
