- Daniel Shumba
-
Daniel Shumba is a former Zimbabwe Army colonel and businessman, was invited into politics and rose to Masvingo provincial chairman of the ZANU-PF political party.[2] In 2006, he left the party in a fallout over the unresolved issue of Robert Mugabe succession. Later in that year, he announced the creation of his own party, the United People's Party.[3] He was denied the chance to run in the 2008 Zimbabwean presidential election,[4] but went on to win an order in the Constitutional Court.
Dr Daniel Shumba sees the current power sharing government as non-inclusive and unrepresentative. "all stakeholders including the church, other political parties, and civic society must form or contribute ao this government". The MDC's alone are unable to get Zanu-PF to agree to true reforms that will lead to peaceful democratic elections. He says,"without a broad based popular constitution Zimbabwe will remain partisan with patronage being the order of the day". This he says, is the course of the current extra-legal and extrajudicial system. In September 2009, Dr Daniel Shumba resigned from opposition politics and rejoined Zanu-PF.
He is married and has two daughters and a son , Natsai, Judith and Simba. He educated in Zimbabwe and UK, holds an MBA and a PhD, he has businesses in IT, Hospitality, Mining and Telecommunications. Dr Daniel Shumba operates between Zimbabwe and South Africa. He is currently working on a pan African broadcasting project. Dr Daniel Shumba is a well known strategist and consults for business, and NGOs in Africa.
Dr Daniel Shumba has invested across many sectors of business and seats on many corporate boards and is a member of many international bodies. Noted as a pundit on regional business issues, he provides his services within the SADC region.
Dr Daniel Shumba is seen as a progressive who has gone past the political agenda, and is focussed at unlocking value as a businessman. "The risk of politics, brings out the opportunistic nature ot people. Let us not confuse democracy, capitalism with an ideological revolution. It is uneducated for one to continue running in a wrong direction, when common sense tell you to review your strategy. Besides, bitterness can not form the bases for an ideolgy, so i have chosen to cut my looses and economically contribute to our great nation. I see myself as wiser today, than i was yesterday."
