Palacio de la Moncloa ("Moncloa Palace") , situated in
Madrid , has been the official residence for thePresident of the Government of Spain since1977 , whenAdolfo Suárez moved the residence from a palace situated in the centre of Madrid, atPaseo de la Castellana . The residence is surrounded by several other buildings which altogether form the Moncloa complex. The ministry of the president is situated in this complex, as well as the vice presidencies (when they exist) and the press office. The weekly cabinet meetings are usually held in La Moncloa.History
The palace used to belong to the
Duke of Moncloa , the palace's namesake. The palace itself was completely destroyed during theSpanish Civil War . It was later rebuilt and has served as the official residence to thePresident of the Government of Spain since theSpanish transition to democracy .External links
