- Guns In The Sky
Guns In The Sky is the opening track from the rock group
INXS ' 1987 album Kick. The lyrics revolve around hostility between nations (specifically theUnited States of America and the formerSoviet Union during theCold War ), and the idea of them putting their "guns in the sky". This track also has the distinction of being the only song on the album with a vulgar expletive, in the line 'well I'm sick of it/it's a load of shit'.Music video
According to commentary by lead singer
Michael Hutchence from the 1988 release Kick: The Video Flick, the music video for Guns In The Sky was filmed inPrague using film left over from the video forNew Sensation . DirectorRichard Lowenstein picked out the location; a large hallway. It is a simple video that, also according to Hutchence, was shot in twenty minutes. It begins with the word "START", then proceeds with Hutchence singing the lyrics while walking down the hallway. Tim and
Andrew Farriss ,Garry Gary Beers andKirk Pengilly are seen playing guitars, and drummerJon Farriss is seen dancing. Split second frames flash on the screen periodically, including a picture ofRonald Reagan andMikhail Gorbachev , and the words "S.D.I.", "USA", "CCCP ","GUNS", "IN", and "SKY".The hallway scene is repeated in a similar fashion throughout the video, except for the guitar solo (which has Tim Farriss walking down the hallway, playing the solo while Hutchence is seen with the rest of the band) and the scene afterwards (which has Michael and the band walking the hallway one last time) before ending with the word "STOP". The band is also seen with different attire each time Hutchence walks down the hallway.Trivia
The liner notes credit the song to Michael Hutchence, but the liner notes of the remastered edition of Kick note that Andrew Farriss assisted with the lyrics, and in return Michael helped with the lyrics to Mediate, another track from the album.
