- Belgenland (1878)
The "Belgenland" was a passenger ship built by the
Barrow Shipbuilding Company for theRed Star Line , Antwerp.She was launched on
24 December ,1878 . Her maiden voyage fromAntwerp toPhiladelphia started on30 March ,1879 . She transferred to Antwerp toNew York sailings on 20 May, 1879. Her last voyage on this service started 6 July, 1895 and she was then chartered to theAmerican Line .Reclassified to carry 150-2nd and 1,000-3rd class passengers, she commenced Philadelphia to
Liverpool sailings on 31 July, 1895. Her last sailing on this route started 17 October, 1903. Returned to the Red Star Line, she was put on the Antwerp to Philadelphia service with 3rd class passengers only.Her last Philadelphia to Antwerp crossing started 7 December, 1904 and she was then sold to Italian owners and renamed "Venere.", before being scrapped in 1906.
