Its transmitter is atop theJohn Hancock Center , one of the tallest buildings in theUnited States . The Chicago area has 2 other PBS member stations,WTTW andWYIN , but according to the General Manager, WYCC differentiates itself by its focus on adult education and by obtaining only 13% of its programming from PBS.The television station is funded and governed by guidelines provided by the
Corporation for Public Broadcasting . Funding is also provided by member donations, collected throughout the year and through pledge drives.WYCC has 2 claims: the largest minority-operated public television station; and according to the Nielsen Station Index, the fastest growing television station in its Chicago market area.
