Cairn Mon Earn

Cairn Mon Earn is a mountain peak in Aberdeenshire, Scotland in the Mounth region of the Grampian Mountains. [United Kingdom Ordnance Survey Map Landranger 45, Stonehaven and Banchory, 1:50,000 scale, 2004] The peak elevation of this mountain is 378 metres above mean sea level. Cairn Mon Earn is within the Durris Forest. Con Mon Earn is a prominent landform visible from a number of coastal hills such as Kempstone Hill and Megray Hill; it also forms a backdrop to the community of Netherley. Roman legions marched from Raedykes to Normandykes Roman Camp somewhat east of Cairn Mon Earn as they sought higher ground evading the bogs of Red Moss and other low-lying mosses including the Burn of Muchalls. That march used the Elsick Mounth, an ancient trackways crossing the Mounth of the Grampian Mountains, [ [http://www.megalithic.co.uk/article.php?sid=18037 C.
