footnotes = Pailou (Chinese: 牌樓; Pinyin: Páilóu) is a small mining town about 20 kilometers southeast of Haicheng. It is located in the province of Liaoning, China.

This town consists of a main street that runs east to west, mostly apartments, a hospital, a theater, a marketplace, Internet cafes, outside dinings, grills & restaurants, a fitness center, an academy, a line of railroad that runs through the north side of town, and general stores. It has an area of 95.68 square kilometers and a population of 39,900. Local farmers tend to grow crops such as corn & wheat next to an unnamed marshy stream, which flows from east to west before intersecting with a river on the west side of town that flows south.

Before the 1970s, Pailou is a quiet town. But as industrial sites begin to develop and expand in the mountains on the southwest suburban areas and the drastic rise in population in the late 20th century, pollution and demand for resource soon becomes a problem.
