Jersey Girls (NJ)

Jersey Girls (NJ)

Jersey Girls is a colloquial derisive term, used to describe girls from New Jersey, USA (usually specifically North Jersey), as the true "dumb brunettes", as opposed to dumb blondes. This term seems to beOr|date=June 2008 loosely similar to the British Essex girl, linking stereotypical airheadness to a specific geographical region.

Jersey girls are often described as brunettes or bleached blondes with the hard Jersey accent, loud, promiscuous, using highly-repetitive small set of weasel phrases and word combinations with a high volume of F-words in the language, unable to handle basic life situations, usually from a working or middle class background, and often but not always of Italian or mixed Irish-Italian descent.

Jersey girls in mass culture

MadTV somewhat popularized the term in their sketch "Jersey Ladies".Alternatively, a video posted on YouTube, called "Jersey girls pumping gas", depicting 20 minutes of fruitless attempts to fill the tank, prompted the creation of bumper stickers and posters reading "Jersey girls don't pump their own gas".
