José Joaquín Aguirre Campos ( – 1901,
Cartagena ,Chile ) was a ChileanMedic ,Politician andEducator .Disciple of
Sazié , excelled early ininternal medicine andsurgery .José Joaquín Aguirre was electedMember of Parliament several times. He later worked asGovernor of theAconcagua province.During the
War of the Pacific officiated as director of theAmbulance Service, inChile he formed part of the Faculty of Medicine,Universidad de Chile from the year 1889 onwards. After the resignation ofJose Ignacio Vergara , he was elected by the faculty's rector.During his tenure he stimulated the creation of commissions
hygene andcleaning . He acquired the land where today stands the Faculty of Medicine andTeaching Hospital of the University that bears his name.He died onJanuary 22 in 1901.
