The Chicago Highlanders Pipe Band is a pipe band founded in 1921 in Chicago, Illinois by Robert Sim.[1] Robert Sim later went on to be Pipe Major of the Chicago Stockyard Kilty Band.

The band currently practices at Bethel Lutheran Church in the village of Palatine, Illinois, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. every Thursday night of the week throughout the year. In keeping with the tradition set forth by past members of the Chicago Highlanders, the band dedicates the first half-hour of their practice time to teaching students.

In addition to performing throughout the year at parades, festivals, and private engagements, the band currently competes in Grade 4 as a member of the Midwest Pipe Band Association.

History

The band played for Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip when they visited Chicago for its International Trade Fair on July 6, 1959, and were part of the official reception along with the 2nd U.S. Marine Division Band.

The band has also played for President John F. Kennedy during one of his stops in Chicago during his 1960 presidential campaign.
