Member of the Service

Member of the Service

Member of the service refers to a sworn police officer, particularly with the New York City Police Department. Thus, the term "MOS" is used interchangeably with "police officer". "MOS" is also used to distinguish between police officers and civilian police personnel. The NYPD also terms its Auxiliary police officers "Auxiliary Members of the Service", or "AMOS".
