After touring in support of their debut album, "Sonic Jihad", Torres and Slater had a falling out, resulting in Torres leaving the band. Martina Axen (formerly of
Drain STH ) was brought on to perform live when SRC played a tour opening forQueensrÿche . While she was set to be the new official vocalist (going so far as to record on demos for the new album), an announcement was made on May 4th, 2006 that Tobey and Jason had reconciled and were back recording together with the intentions of releasing a new album in the Summer of 2007. This sudden and unexpected turn of events was well received by fans.On September 4th, 2006, four months after returning to Snake River Conspiracy, Tobey Torres posted on her myspace blog that "I have once again chosen to disassociate myself from Snake River Conspiracy" and thanked fans for their support. Two days later, band guitarist Mitch Doran posted a message on the SRC forums that he had decided to leave the band as well. No official reason has been given for the second falling out. Jason Slater, who typically keeps fans apprised of the ongoings of the band via myspace and the SRC forums, has remained quiet on the situation as well as the status of the material that had been recorded during the brief reconciliation.
From Jason Slater "The above, for the most part is accurate, but I think the information isn't giving credit were it is really due. Bobby Hewitt rehearsed with the band a handful of times but never played a show or recorded. Fab Fernandes played one show. None of the people listed as former band members played on any recordings with the exception of Neil Taylor, Geoff Tyson, Eric Hendrikx, Martina Axen and Tobey Torres. The touring band for Sonic Jihad was Tobey Torres, Geoff Tyson, Neil Taylor, Rob Patterson, Scott Sorry and myself. The second lineup of SRC was mainly Eric Hendrikx, , Martina Axen and Myself. Those performances are only on what would have been the 2nd record. The second record is finished and was written by Me, Troy VanLeuuven, Eddie Nappi and Charlie Clouser with one track written by me and Eric Hendrikx. Unfortunately it will never be released. Some of the demo's are floating around the net but they are very unfinished. When time permits I will finish the production and mix them. Who knows, maybe the final product will somehow get leaked and end up on the 'net. If that were to happen I would encourage people to download it because I'm very proud of the work and it would be a fitting end to what was once a great project. SRC was a project that I started with Eric Valentine, a longtime friend and a major contributor to Sonic Jihad and finished with David Kahne. I never intended on being in the band or touring, I just wanted to make the record with my friends and have a good time. No labels wanted to sign the project without me being in the band, as Tobey (the singer), had never been in a band before. Rightly so, they felt someone with some experience needed to be there to put a band together and tour. So, I took a break from my production career and went on the road. There was basically some form of falling out within the band every few months, thus the long list of "members". Putting together a new band every time this happened became very tiresome for me. The version of the band with Eric Hendrikx and Martina Axen was solid but didn't work any longer when I moved from LA back to Northern California, so I assembled a new band. It was very exciting to have Tobey come back into the fold and I was very hopeful that we would get the second record finished and get back out on the road, but unfortunately the same old problems resurfaced and I just didn't have it in me to put yet another version of the band together and start over. It became clear to me that it was time to just move on and continue producing records. I've stayed in touch with almost everyone that has been in the band, other than Tobey, and still work with a lot of them from time to time. I'm happy to report that everybody is still making music and doing well. I'd like to give an honorable mention to Neil Taylor who was a member of the band for almost 5 years and is the most talented drummer I've had the privilege of working with."
Jason Slater was previously a founding member of
Third Eye Blind , a band he left because he felt they were "...the modern equivalent of thePartridge Family ."Discography
