footnotes = Island View Beach is located on the eastern shore of the Saanich Peninsula, near Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. It was discovered by James Douglas in the latter half of the 18th century. Located east of James Island, to locals it is known as the "Beach of Destiny". Tourists should be aware that there are off leash dog restrictions from June 1 to September 15th. Dogs should be kept on leash in beach and picnic areas and are not allowed to stay overnight. Island View ("I-View") is a BC Regional Park, therefore facilities are located for those who are in need of garbage cans and or washrooms. Island View Beach has ramps for those who have difficulty with stairs, and a boat launch for access to Haro Strait and the Cordova Channel. Island View Beach is home to many rare and plant and bird species. It is built on a natural and fragile sand dune. Some of British Columbia's most threatened shorebirds, such as the Oystercatcher, are found here.
