Dotay attended the University of Florida, and he is best known for his role as Richard in the film "Courage & Stupidity". Dotay has appeared in over 6 major film productions, and he was nominated for his performance in the movie "Sarah". He had a prominent role in the HBO original series, The Wire during its third season.

In 2007, his script, "Frank & Flo" won first place in the "LA Shorts Fest".
