Lille-Kortrijk Eurodistrict and related universities in the Euroregion including Belgium and French Nord - Pas de Calais.It aims to strenghten academic and research cooperation among the universities in the Euroregion.

It is commonplace to state that international attractivity of a region is based on a sustainable combination of first-class university institutes and tight imbrication between education, research and the society. This is the purpose of the doctoral college to contribute and maintain sustainable such a combination in Lille-Nord de France region, as this European region includes more than one hundred thousand university students and more than ten thousands researchers. "Lille-Nord de France" claims [http://cde.univ-lille1.fr/ Introduction to the European doctoral college Lille - Nord Pas de Calais] to be one of the few tens European hub regions recognised for their academic excellence and innovation dynamism.Research domains are supported by several hundreds Master/research curricula from the Université Lille Nord de France and partners institutes, as the first step towards doctoral studies within the doctoral college. Beyond fondamental research, applied research is also considered within the scope of the doctoral college, with support to the emergence of innovations. The doctoral college is embedded in several world-class competitivity clusters located in Nord de France region with links towards industry applications. Incubators for start-up companies (such as Eurasanté and MITI-incubation) are located on the campus sites in Lille region.

Most researches within the doctoral college are partially funded through grants from the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) or from the French "Agence nationale pour la Recherche" (ANR). Applied research is also funded through university-industry joint programmes (CIFRE).
