Robert (Bob) P. Dettmer (born March 1, 1951) is an American politician serving member of the Minnesota House of Representatives representing House District 52A, which includes the communities of Centerville, Columbus, Forest Lake, Hugo, Lino Lakes, Linwood and Scandia.

In 2006, Representative Dettmer was elected to the open seat vacated by Rep. Ray Vandeveer upon Vandeveer's decision to run for higher office that year. A member of the Republican party, Rep. Dettmer focuses on the issues of education, health care reform, economic growth, transportation, and public safety.

Career and background

Dettmer attended Bemidji State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education in 1973 He became a teacher in Forest Lake at Forest Lake High School, where he taught physical education and coached wrestling until 2006.

Dettmer serves in the United States Army Reserve as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 (CW4) in the military intelligence branch. In November of 2001, began a two year tour on active duty supporting Operation Enduring Freedom at Fort Gordon, Georgia, and later Operation Iraqi Freedom. Two of Dettmer's sons also serve in the Army as officers.
