In October 3, 2010 Brazil will choose the successor of president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. If none of the candidates receives more than half of the valid votes, a run-off will be held on October 24.
Brazilians will also choose all members of the Chamber of Deputies, two thirds of the Federal Senate, as well as the governors of the 26 states and of the Federal District.
According to the Constitution of Brazil, the President is elected directly to a four-year term, with a term limit of two terms. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is not allowed to run again, because he was elected in 2002 and reelected in 2006.
