Sino-Maltese relations

Chinese-Maltese relations are the foreign relations between the People's Republic of China and Malta. Both countries established diplomatic relations in 1972. China has an embassy in Valletta and Malta has an embassy in Beijing.

Economy

Upon mutual recognition of soverignty in 1972, China provided a long term loan of 100 million yuan to Malta, which in turn was used to build port infrastructure. [ [http://www.fmprc.gov.cn/eng/wjb/zzjg/xos/gjlb/3331/default.htm Malta ] ] Trade relations between China and Malta increased markedly in the 2000s, with total amounts of bilateral trade in 2002 nearly doubling as compared to 2001.
