Francesco Antommarchi

Francesco Antommarchi (1780, CorsicaApril 3 1838, Santiago de Cuba on Cuba), Napoleon Bonaparte I's attached physician at Saint Helena, wrote "The Last Moments of Napoleon". He concluded that Napoleon died of stomach cancer. A plaster death mask of Napoleon was cast, and from there, four bronze masks were cast. Two masks are located in the United States. In 1834 Antommarchi donated his mask to the city of New Orleans. Another mask is preserved in the North Carolina Collection at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
