The Bushwackers (band)

The Bushwackers Band (originally The Bushwackers and Bullockies Band) is an Australian folk and country music whose original lifetime spanned over a decade from the early 1970s to 1984. The original band consisted of Dobe Newton on Lagerphone and vocals, Mick Slocum on Accordians and vocals, Jan Wositzky on Harmonica, bush bass and vocals, Tony Hunt on Fiddle and Viola and Dave Isom on guitar. Other members over the years include Fred Kuhnl, Gregory Martin, Steve Groves, Dave Kidd, Pete Farndon, Dave Mattacks, Roger Corbett Michael Harris, Louis Mcmanus and Eddy van Roosendael.

Notable recordings include Faces in the Street, Beneath the Southern Cross, Bushfire, Murrumbidgee and The Shearers Dream – two of which were released through Australian record label Astor Records. The album And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda was released through EMI records in 1976 and is regarded as one of their finest recordings.

Many songs were adaptations of poetry written by Australian bush poets.

In the 90's the band has been reformed with Newton and Corbett appearing in the lineup.
