Gene Gotti (born 1946 to John and Fannie Gotti) is a New York mobster who belongs to the
Gambino crime family who was a major drug trafficker in New York. He has four brothers: John, Peter, Richard, and Vincent. Gene became a Gambino associate around 1966, amade man in 1976, Capo in 1985, and reduced to soldier due to incarceration in 1989. Gene and his friendAngelo Ruggiero , were dealingheroin against bossPaul Castellano 's rules and he was going to have them killed. According to testimony by Gambino underboss Salvatore "Sammy Bull" Gravano, Gene Gotti was involved in a number of mob murders. He has never been charged with any of these murders. To his brother John Gotti's eternal fury, Gene whom John considered inferior in every possible respect, was an amazingly lucky gambler. Gene loved to irk John on occasions by how he triumphed on a nine-to-one shot at the horse racetrack, at a time when John, according to rumors around the Bergin Hunt and Fish Club, "couldn't win a bet on the color of his own underwear."Gene was convicted in 1989 of selling drugs and received a 50-year
prison sentence. As of April 2008, Gene Gotti is still imprisoned at the United States Penitentiary (USP) inPollock, Louisiana . His projected release date is September 14, 2018.He is portrayed in the made for television movie by actor Scott Cohen.
