The school is situated at Kanhangad in Kasaragod district, a district in northern Kerala. The school was established in the year 1948 and is one of the most famous schools in Kasargod. Durga stands on the zenith due its active participation and outperformance in sports and arts. The school secured first prize in the state level youth festival in Kerala in the year 2007 after a tremendous performance. The school has a strength of more than 4,000 students and 150 teachers. In 2008 the school was able to keep its top position up in Youth festival, Sanskrit festival and Arabic festival.

Location
Located near Kotachery, Kanhangad, Kasaragod District, Kerala State, India. It is 2 km from the old Kanhangad Bus Stand. When travelling by bus, get down at Kailas Theatre Bus stop and proceed eastwards along the sub road (1.5 km) and the road ends at the school.
Education
Students are admitted from the 5th standard and goes up to the 12th standard. Admission to the 5th standard can be had in English, Malayalam or Kannada Medium. Intake for Malayalam medium is the highest, followed by English and then Kannada.
Sports
A football ground is available to the students for games. Generally, sports training is not given, and the school doesn't have a good record in sports.
NCC
National cadet corp 32 Kerala Battalion NCC unit is well established here. Children from 8th Standard are admitted.
