He played for Aris winning 8 Greek Championships (1983, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991) and 5 Greek Cups (1985, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990). He also participated at 3 Euroleague final fours (1998, 1989, 1990).
In 1991 he moved to PAOK and won the Greek Championship in 1992. He also participated at the Euroleague final four in 1993.
He was a member of the Greek National Squad that won the gold medal at Eurobasket 1987, and the silver medal at Eurobasket 1989. He also played at the 1986 FIBA World Championship.
As the team manager of the Greek National Squad he won the gold medal at Eurobasket 2005, and the silver medal at the 2006 FIBA World Championship.
Filippou is also a member of the Greek Basketball Hall of Fame, inducted as a player.
