Alan Wilson (priest)

The Right Reverend Dr Alan Thomas Lawrence Wilson DPhil MA (born 1956) is the current Bishop of Buckingham in the Diocese of Oxford. He has been Bishop of Buckingham since 2003.

Wilson was born in Redford Barracks in Edinburgh, and went to Sevenoaks School in Kent for his secondary education. He studied History at Cambridge before going to Wycliffe Hall Theological College, Oxford for his doctorate. [Bishop Alan's blog profile - http://www.blogger.com/profile/13879516755776951638]

Dr Wilson was ordained Deacon in 1979 and Priest in 1980, and initially held an academic post funded by the University of Oxford. He went on to serve his curacy with the Revd. Peter Ridley in Eynsham, during which time he met his future wife, Lucy.

He spent the following years of his ministry in a variety of capacities, including as a prison chaplain. [Interview with Bishop Alan - http://www.oxford.anglican.org/page/551/] . He was Vicar of Caversham, Rural Dean of Sonning and finally (before his elevation to the Episcopate) a Canon at Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford.
