Prone bike

Prone bike

A prone bike is a recumbent bicycle which places the rider in a prone position. The bottom bracket is located at the bicycle's rear, the rider lies either on a pad or in a hard-shell seat. The rider's position shall reduce drag and therefore increase the speed of the vehicle. Most prone bikes are do-it-yourself constructions. There are only few series-production models.

The first prone bike was developed and marketed by the American company "Darling" in 1897.
