Everyday carry

Everyday carry

Every day carry (EDC) refers to various items, usually small, that are worn or carried by a person on a daily basis for use in everyday tasks from the mundane to the unexpected. This term is related to carrying concealed weapon (CCW), as most individuals who carry legally-permitted firearms consider their firearm an EDC. This can be thought of as a grown-up extension of the Boy Scout philosophy of "Be prepared" - this is summed up in Arc Flashlight's requirements statement:

*Be small enough to be carried with minimum effort and thought. Ideally, it would attach to something else you already are in the habit of carrying. That way, it is more likely to be with you during an emergency.
*Have sufficient runtime to last the length of typical emergencies with an additional amount added because we can assume the battery is not always fresh when you leave the house.
*Use a common battery that can be found throughout the world and can also be scavenged from other equipment.
*Be durable enough that it can be depended on over a wide type of emergencies including floods, fire, earthquake, etc. It should be at least as durable as the person carrying it.
While this is somewhat specific to flashlights, the same design considerations are generally applied to any piece of equipment intended as everyday carry preparedness gear.

EDC items include:

*Electronic devices, with mobile phones probably being the most common item.
*Flashlights
*Handguns
*Keychain tools
*Knives
*Swiss Army knives
*Multi-tools
*Watches
*Cordage (Paracord often bound in lanyard form)
*Writing implements
*Notebook
*Wallets
*Sunglasses
*Kerchief / Bandana
*Lighters
*Umbrella
*Walking sticks
*the "Batbelt" – named after the famous utility belt used by Batman, this is an affectionate nickname for a belt heavily laden with utility gadgets—frequently at least one knife and flashlight, a cell phone and PDA; the more objects carried, the higher the "Batbelt factor"
