- Sextuple Champions
In Boxing a Sextuple Champion is that fighter that win world titles in at least six different categories of weight.
The first ever man in boxing (counting only the major world titles) to earn that distinction was the great
Oscar De La Hoya at 2004-06-05. His first title was the 130 WBO Super Featherweight Title 1994-03-05 fromJimmy Bredahl ; his second belt was obtained at Lightweight when he seized the 135 Vacant WBO Lightweight Title 1995-02-18 defeatingJohn-John Molina ; later he moved up in divisions to fight the legendaryJulio César Chávez and win the 140 WBC Light Welterweight Title at 1996-06-07; De La Hoya challengedPernell Whitaker to get the title by split decision and conquest the fourth title at Welterweight (147 WBC) at 1997-04-12 Nevada, USA W UD 12 12. Later he annexed a fifth world title by gaining the 154 WBC Light Middleweight title in 2001-06-23 versusJavier Castillejo from Spain; and finally the last frontier was reached: a six title (160 WBO Middleweight title) in six different divisions at 2004-06-05 defeating the double championFelix Sturm by decision. In reality, if we count the world minor titles also, the very first man to win six world titles in at least six different categories was the legendary
Thomas Hearns . Hearns won titles at 147, 154, 175, 160, 168 & 190 pounds. The Hitman's first belt was at 147 when he won the WBA Welterweight Title 1980-08-02 from Pipino Cuevas; after losing to Ray Leonard he moved up in weight (154) to challenge the youngest ever champion in boxingWilfredo Benitez adding a second crown to his resume (154 WBC Super Welterweight Title) at 1982-12-03; Hearns made an unusual move when he was the first ever former Welterweight champ to fight for the WBC Light Heavyweight (175) Title at 1987-03-07 defeating Dennis Andries Detroit for his third title in three divisions. Later, Tommy moved down in weight to fight for the vacant 160 WBC Middleweight Title in 1987-10-29 versus Juan D.Roldán of Argentina winning his fourth world title; the 5th Title was the 168 vacant WBO Super Middleweight title from James Kinchen in Nevada at 1988-11-04 by decision in 12 rounds. Finally he obtained a 6th Title at Cruiserweight but was with the not very respected WBU, taking the vacant title from Lenny LaPaglia by first round knock out in 1995-03-31.ee also
