Belk College of Business

The Belk College of Business is the business school at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. The Belk College offers undergraduate, master's and doctoral degrees in a variety of business disciplines.

History

The college was established in 1965 as the Department of Business at UNC Charlotte; it became the College of Business Administration in 1971 when the university reorganized its departments into colleges. The school was renamed the The Belk College of Business in 1991 in honor of the William Henry Belk family and the Belk department store organization. Members of the Belk family were instrumental in the creation of UNC Charlotte and have been generous contributors to the university and the college.

Accreditation

Since 1984, the Belk College has been accredited by AACSB International, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. UNC Charlotte is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

Doctoral Programs

The Belk College offers a Ph.D. in business administration, with a major in finance. UNC Charlotte is now one of only three universities in North Carolina that offers degrees in business administration at the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral level. [http://www.belkcollege.uncc.edu/phd/]

Master's Programs

The Belk College offers five master’s degrees:
* Master of Business Administration (MBA) [http://www.mba.uncc.edu] , with academic concentrations in Applied Investment Management, Business Finance, Economics, Financial Institutions/Commercial Banking, Global Business, Information & Technology Management, Management, Marketing, Real Estate Finance and Development, Supply Chain Management. A student-structured concentration is also available.
* MBA in Sports Marketing and Management [http://www.sportsmba.uncc.edu] , with emphases in Team Sports, Motorsports or Individual Sports/Event Management.
* Master of Accountancy [http://www.macc.uncc.edu] , with three tracks: Professional Accounting, Financial Accounting/Auditing, or Tax. The program also includes the option for development of an individualized program of study.

* Master of Science in Mathematical Finance [http://mathfinance.uncc.edu] - a joint program between the Belk College and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

Undergraduate Programs

The Belk College offers three undergraduate degrees:
* Bachelor of Science in Accounting
* Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA), with majors in : Finance (optional concentration in Risk Management and Insurance), Industrial and Operations Management, International Business, Management (optional concentration in Managerial Leadership), Management Information Systems and Marketing.
* Bachelor of Science in Economics, with concentration in business administration or liberal arts.

Global Programs

The Belk College is undertaking a significant expansion of its international programs, bolstered by a $1.5 million gift from The Belk Foundation in 2002. Current global programs include:

The Business Advisory Council (BAC) is a group of business and community leaders who work to increase the visibility and presence of the Belk College in the business community, and who provide feedback so the College can better serve the community.
