He won many international competitions as well as the gold medal for the US in the 2000 Olympic Games. He is only the second American to have won the Badminton Horse Trials. O'Connor sits as the President of the US Equestrian Federation. His wife, Karen O'Connor, was a member of the 2008 US Olympic Equestrian team. He is now the coach of the Canadian eventing team, which won silver at the 2010 World Equestrian Games.
