glacier , 10 miles (16 km) long, flowing east and merging with the terminus ofCasey Glacier where it discharges intoCasey Inlet , on the east coast of theAntarctic Peninsula . Photographed from the air byFalkland Islands Dependencies Survey (FIDS) in August 1947, and byRonne Antarctic Research Expedition (RARE) (Trimetrogon air photography) in December 1947. Surveyed by FIDS in November 1960. Named byUnited Kingdom Antarctic Place-Names Committee (UK-APC) afterAthena , daughter ofZeus and goddess of the city ofAthens inGreek mythology .
