Victory Baptist Church

Victory Baptist Church, having just celebrated it's 33rd year of service to the community of Louisville, Kentucky was once one of the largest churches in the region. With the evangelical movement of the 1970s came booming congregation numbers and a busing ministry designed and run by Pastor Gardner Gentry. Former Pastor and current missionary / church builder in Malawi, Africa. The current pastor was the associate pastor for many years, Randall "Randy" Kennedy. He is the son-in-law of Pastor gentry having married his daughter Denise, who runs the clerical side of the church along with Yvonne Wilson, Emma Waits and Kendra Gies. The Church offers many ministries, a much smaller busing ministry headed by Bro Lou Merrill, a children's church that runs parallel with the main services taught by Bro. Tim Wells and Bro. Scott Roberts, many Sunday school courses for all ages, a youth ministry (also taught by Bro. Scott Roberts) and a growing Spanish Speaking Ministry led by Bro. Gabriel Moreno Sr. and his family.

HistoryFor the first few years of its existence Victory Baptist church was a small congregation meeting in basements and living rooms of its few parishioners. After time passed and attendance began to grow the need for a permanent structure became clear. It was then that Pastor Gentry began to have his church built on Beulah Church Road. The original structure is still standing and has had many additions and improvements.

Buildings & Services
The original structure included a large sanctuary, a vestibule, two pastoral offices and three clerical offices, a dozen classrooms on the west side of the church, and a nursery, kitchen, two bathrooms, four classrooms and a fireside dining hall on the east and relatively large areas for parking. Additions to the original structure include a Gymnasium, a baseball field, a playground on the east side, a large garage behind the baseball field which lies on the north side, a parsonage of moderate size to the west of the gymnasium, a covered "breezeway" was built over the gap between the Gym and the main building. A library and two offices were put along the southerly northern side of the church with storage rooms and a photography room across the breezeway on the northerly northern side. Behind the gym is the school building built to accommodate the now closed Victory Christian Academy which grew as quickly as the congregation did in IT'S early days. The school has two floors and more than 20 classrooms and two large restrooms. The downstairs now houses the Spanish ministry. Outside the kitchen and along the east side of the fireside room lie two refrigerating units (one of which is no longer in working order), also the Green Room is connected to the fireside room. It originally functioned as a multi-purpose room, then housed the Spanish ministry and now is where the Youth Group holds it's meetings.

MusicVictory has developed a reputation for having prestigious musical guests of the Southern Gospel Music scene. The Rochester's (Rochester Family), The Dosses, The Erwin Brothers (family), and recently during an annual Valentine's Day Banquet Gies von Bar (though he is not of the Southern Gospel style). All three of the Southern Gospel troupes perform on an annual basis. The Dosses perform during the Anniversary Celebrations and their male vocalist Bro Neil Latham preaches a four day revival service. The Rochester's and Erwin Brothers perform during the fall revival services, this coincides with the annual National Quartet Convention held in Louisville.
