Cheryl Anne Lorance

Cheryl Anne Lorance (b. 1969: Muncie, Indiana) is an American sculptor, painter, goldsmith, and intaglio printmaker. She graduated from Ball State University (painting and sculpture).^[1] She received both a graduate assistantship and Creative Arts Grant from the same university and later completed a masters thesis on the subject of bronze patination. She currently is a resident of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Lorance is a long-time member of the Santa Fe Etching Club and a former student of the La Romita School of Art in Umbria, Italy. She has participated in numerous art shows including the American Craft Council Show (Baltimore), Buyers Market of American Craft (Philadelphia), the JCK Show (Las Vegas), Paradise City Arts Festival, Cherry Creek Art Festival, Loveland Sculpture Invitational Show and Sale, Tempe Arts Festival, and the Scottsdale Art Festival (1st place honors in sculpture, 2008). Her work is represented at several fine art galleries throughout the U.S. and Canada. She has also exhibited at the New Mexico Museum of Fine Art and the Santa Fe Opera.

Well-known for her bronze bells which depict figures from the Commedia dell'arte and the puppet and marionette theatre, her work is said to "draw the audience into a theatre of pathos..." where archetypal figures tell "tales of alienation, lost love and ironic misfortune." Her etchings, sculptures, and reliefs have a narrative, whimsical quality, and often depict figural (acrobats and musicians) and architectural (towers and boats) themes where rich (often polychrome) patinas enhance the textured bronze surface. Lorance casts bronzes using the lost-wax method.
