Location View is a feature of 360 degree movie map developed by the Location View Co. and introduced on 14 May, 2007 in Japan that provides 360 degree panoramic street-level views and allows users to view parts of every corner on selected cities and their surrounding at ground level.cite news

accessdate = 2008-03-22] When it was launched, several major cities in Japan, such as Tokyo, Yokohama, Kawasaki, Nagoya, Kyoto, Osaka and Himeji were included. It has since been expanded, and includes the suburbs of a number of other Japanese cities.

Background and mapping concept

In Tokyo, it is claimed that Location View has captured images of over 90% of the city’s property. Location View hired retired Taxicab drivers who drove round the city with camera-equipped vehicles to capture footage in Tokyo. Location View images from Tokyo and other cities are updated every two years.

The images are delivered through the Internet, using a 360-degree hybrid map. No matter how far the place is, it shows as if the viewer is walking around the city. The third generation of Location View was instroduced on 9 October, 2007.
