- Småländska
Småländska (Swedish for "Smålandian") is a general term for the
accent s of Swedish spoken in the historical province ofSmåland in southernSweden . The northeastern accents are mainly influenced by the Central Swedish accents while the southwest has been more influenced by Southern Swedish accents, like that ofHalland andSkåne . Among the most distinguishing features of southern Småländska is the use of auvular trill IPA| [ʀ] (most often realized as avoiced uvular fricative IPA| [ʁ] ) for the Swedish phoneme /r/.A major
isogloss runs straight through Småland in a rough line from the border toVästergötland in the west throughJönköping and to the coastal town ofMönsterås in the east, 40 km north ofKalmar . The isogloss divides the dorsal realizations of /r/ in the south and the transitional area that uses both coronal and dorsal realization encompassing large parts ofVästergötland ,Östergötland ,Värmland andBohuslän . North of this transiational area only coronal realizations such asalveolar trill s [r] ,alveolar tap s IPA| [ɾ] andvoiced retroflex fricative s IPA| [ʐ] are used.References
