- Knute Heldner
Knute Heldner was born a Swede in 1875. He lived in
Vederslöv inSmåland , Sweden. He migrated to America around 1902. [ [http://www.porkopolis.org/art_gal/heldner-k.htm Knute Heldner — Porkopolis Art Museum ] ] He lived in Duluth Minnesota until 1934 and then he eventually made his home inNew Orleans , Louisiana. He is a famous painter. He was married toCollette Pope Heldner , who was also a painter and his one time student from a school in Minnesota. He died in 1952.He won the gold medal at the Minnesota state fair in 1915. ["Swedes in the Twin Cities: Immigrant Life and Minnesota's Urban Frontier" by Philip J. Anderson and Dag Blanck, 2001] . In 1921 he exhibited his work in the Swedish American Artist's Association in the Swedish Club in Chicago. His style was modern expressionistic, derived from his training as an artist in Sweden. He was recognized for painting of Louisiana landscapes. His best paintings however were portraits.
