Peter Lopez is a member of the
New York State Assembly , for the 127th district first elected in 2006. He is a Republican.Early life
Lopez was raised in Schoharie, NY. He graduated from Schoharie High School and attended SUNY Cobleskill.Lopez attended SUNY Albany where he received a MPA in 1988.
Politics
His first run for the Schoharie Village Board was at the age of 20. He lost to a candidate endorsed by the mayor.
Lopez later won a seat on the Village Board and worked his way to the position of
Schoharie, New York Supervisor.Lopez served as the District Office Director for
John Faso , who later ran for Governor of New York in 2006. [ http://www.votesmart.org/bio.php?can_id=69222 ]Lopez was later elected County Clerk in 2004 and served until 2006. Lopez received about 70% of the vote in 2004.
Lopez was elected to the NYS Assembly's 127th District in 2006. He defeated Siena professor Scott Trees by a 58-42% margin. Lopez ran as under the Republican, Conservative, and Independence parties.
Lopez will be running un-opposed in the 2008 Assembly man election in the 127th district.
Pete Lopez is well known in his district for pushing for alternative energy. Lopez and his staff organized a trip to the
Maple Ridge Wind Farm , theFenner Wind Farm , and theMadison Wind Farm in 2007. Lopez also supports biodiesel research and development.Personal life
