Carlos Negron

Carlos Negrón Colon (born March 5, 1988) is an amateur boxer from Puerto Rico best known for winning Bronze at the 2006 Central American Games at light heavyweight and for qualifying for the Olympics 2008.

Career

2005 he still competed at middleweight where he reached the final of the so-called PanAmerican championships but couldn't fight against Emilio Correa.

At light-heavy Negron won the Independence Cup 2006 against Washington Silva at the Central American and Caribbean Games he had to settle for Bronze when he lost his semifinal 2:14 to Cuba's eventual winner Yusiel Napoles.

At the first PanAm qualifier 2007 he beat Christopher Downs 30:14 but injured himself and quit the tournament.In the main event he was upset in his first match against Julio Castillo from Ecuador.

At the Olympic qualifier he easily won beating among others Azea Austinama, Washington Silva and Downs-conqueror Luis Gonzalez whom he knocked down twice 17:5.

Prior to the Olympics Negrón participated in the XXXVIII International Golden Belt Tournament organized in Constanta, Rumania. His first match was against local boxer Vonstantin Irimia, defeating him by technical knockout in the second round. In his first Olympic fight, Negrón defeated Mehdi Ghorbani of Iran on points, 13-4. Using his height and reach advantage, he managed to gain control of the score since the first round, scoring a knockdown in the third.
