History

95.1 K-SKY began broadcasting in August of 1982 [ cite web|url=http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws.exe/prod/cdbs/pubacc/prod/call_hist.pl?Facility_id=3041&Callsign=KSQY |title=KSQY Call Sign History |work=United States Federal Communications Commission, audio division ] from a tower on the summit of Terry Peak in Lead, South Dakota giving the station a very large coverage area that reaches parts of five states. K-SKY uses a 17,000 watt booster licensed to Rapid City with the call letters KSQY-FM1 to help cover the Rapid City metro.

During the mid 1980s the K-SKY was one of the highest rated Album-oriented_rock stations in the US. Through the years K-SKY has changed formats to Classic Rock to Adult Album Alternative to it's current Mainstream Rock format.

The original K-SKY studios were located at 666 Main Street in downtown Deadwood. In 1998, Haugo Broadcasting acquired Rapid City stations KIQK-FM "Kick 104" and KTOQ-AM "K-Talk 1340" from Tom-Tom broadcasting that was owned by newscaster Tom Brokaw. Soon after the purchase, K-SKY moved it's studios to Rapid City and joined it's new sister stations. In Sept 2008, Haugo Broadcasting moved into it's new facilities on Canyon Lake Dr.
