Angry White Male (sometimes abbreviated as AWM) is the designation of a
voting bloc of whitemales in theUnited States that came into use during and after the midterm elections of 1994 in which white males supported Republican candidates by a 24 % margin (compared to a 6 % margin in 1986 and a 4 % margin in 1990).Demographic characteristics of the group include males of predominantly
working class orlower middle class status, who are 'angered' by:
* policies or actions ingovernment ,business , media,education , and other institutions that openly favor non-whites, women, gays, and other minorities - sometimes referred to as "reverse discrimination ;"
* movements such asenvironmentalism which they deem as inimical to their economic interests or which they do not believe the government should have control over;
* the actual or believed cultural condescension of affluent "limousine liberal s."References
