New York City , the son of actorsJason Robards andLauren Bacall . He began his acting career in 1980 in anoff-Broadway production of "Album", and made his feature film debut in directorPaul Mazursky 's 1982 film "Tempest". He married fellow actorSuzy Amis in 1985. Their marriage produced a son, Jasper, and ended indivorce in 1993. In 1997, Robards married Danish model Sidsel Jensen, and they have two sons together.Robards appeared alongside his father in 1988's "Bright Lights, Big City", in their only film collaboration together (Robards Sr. died in
2000 .) He also costarred with his mother in the 1993Robert Altman film "Prêt-à-Porter". Robards portrayedHarold Ross , first editor of "The New Yorker ", in "Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle " in 1994 for writer-directorAlan Rudolph .
