Ulysses Travel Guides

Ulysses Travel Guides is a Canadian publisher.Specializing in travel guides, Ulysses publishes thoroughly-researched, reliable guides for independent travellers with a finger on the pulse of other cultures and a thirst for knowledge. In addition to publishing its own guides, Ulysses also acts as a retailer and distributor through its two Montréal bookstores and its distribution network which supplies thousands of travel-related products throughout Canada. It also operates an online bookstore: www.ulyssesguides.com.

History

Bookstore...

Ulysses began as a bookseller, and today its two Montréal bookstores offer quality information and travel advice to more than 100,000 travellers every year. Responding to the growing needs of travellers, Ulysses quickly started importing travel guides and maps from the four corners of the globe, making its selection the best in Canada.

Distributor...

The import of books and maps led Ulysses into wholesale distribution. Today, the company supplies more than 2,000 customers throughout North America, each one benefiting from Ulysses’ expertise and quality products. Ulysses’ wholesale catalogue now lists more than 12,000 products from 15 countries.

Publisher...

The young Canadian company still needed to complete one final leg of its journey to truly make its mark in the travel guide business. After 10 years of rubbing shoulders with travellers and booksellers, Ulysses set its sights on another adventure when it created Ulysses Travel Guides in 1990. The following years have been dedicated to building up Ulysses’ guide collection, which now features over 80 titles in English and more than 100 in French, as well as 4 cartographic titles.

Ulysses’ guides are available in countries throughout the world, including Canada, the United States, Great Britain, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Austria, France, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy, Germany and Spain.

A few facts about Ulysses

Ulysses’ publishing house is located in Montréal above its Saint-Denis Street bookstore.

Its titles are divided into several collections, including Ulysses Travel Guides, Ulysses Green Escapes (focusing on outdoor activities), Ulysses Phrasebooks and the Fabulous series (a cross between a practical guide and an illustrated book).

Contrary to widespread belief, Ulysses’ bookstores do not only sell titles published by Ulysses, as they also offer travel guides by competing publishers.

More than 95% of Ulysses’ guides cover destinations within the three Americas.

Ulysses is the largest Canadian publisher specializing in travel literature.
