Karen Aim was a woman from Holm in Orkney who was
murder ed in the town ofTaupo ,New Zealand onJanuary 17 2008 . The 26-year-old was on her way home after drinking with friends in Taupo, when she was murdered, allegedly by a 14-year-old Maori boy. Aim, who was on aworking holiday in New Zealand, was found lying in a pool of blood on a street corner by police.The boy who has been charged with the murder cannot be named because of his age. He faces a minimum sentence of life imprisonment, normally allowing a release after 10 years, if convicted of murder. Peter Maxwell Davies , the Master of the Queen’s Music, said he had written a composition in Aim's memory after being "moved and shocked" by her death.
